Google announced that it would begin rolling out the July 2021 core update on July 1, 2021, with the July 2021 release date. Many of us were aware that another core update would be released soon, and Google delivered this one a month after the June 2021 core update – which was released on June 2, 2021. This one appears to have gotten off to a strong start, and many people are reporting significant changes due to this update.
Unlike the other core updates, this is a global update that affects all languages and all regions of the world.
Just as computers & smartphones are regularly updated, the same thing happens with Google Search. In fact, Google Search is updated thousands of times per year with changes meant to improve the experience and the quality of results. The previous core update was the core update from June 2, a month ago. Before that, six months before the June update, the core update from December 3, 2020, was named.
This update appears to have gotten underway quickly, as evidenced by a large amount of chatter in the last 12 hours or so, and the tools are showing changes.
Google has guided what to do if recent core updates have harmed your website. A negative impact ranking may not indicate that there is anything wrong with your pages, nor are there any specific actions to be taken to restore your rankings.
On the other hand, Google provided a list of questions to consider if a core update affects your website. Google claims that you can see some recovery between core updates. However, the most significant change will occur after another core update is released.
As a reminder, nothing in a core update is site-specific. Those who seek to perform well with search generally, including with core updates, should look to our guidance here: https://t.co/Mk9xsiTw1B— Google SearchLiaison (@searchliaison) June 2, 2021
Google often updates its ranking algorithm to provide better search results. This means that your website’s position in the search results can either improve or worsen. You need to stay aware of when Google makes these updates. Staying updated will help you identify whether the change in your ranking was due to something you changed on your web pages or because Google updated its ranking algorithm.
Of course, any core update can produce drops or gains for some content. Because of the two-part nature of this release, it’s possible a very small slice of content might see changes in June that reverse in July….— Google SearchLiaison (@searchliaison) June 2, 2021
